Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu is confident in their chances of overcoming fellow newly-promoted side Huddersfield Town in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Magpies are hoping to make amends for their 2-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the season opener.

And Atsu, voted the Toon's best player in the game, is looking to inspire their first win of the campaign at the John Smith's Stadium.

"Everybody has a positive feeling going into the game," Atsu told the Chronicle.

"The next game is the most important. We are focused on that already.

“I believe we will bounce back. We just need to keep our focus and keep our heads up for Huddersfield.

"We have put the Spurs game behind us and moved on to the next game.

“I am trying to do what I can to make the fans happy. I want to give them what they deserve.”

Atsu joined Newcastle on loan from Chelsea last season but a fine campaign saw the move made permanent in May.

After failing to make a single appearance for the Blues since joining in 2013 and having seen loan moves to Everton and Bournemouth end in disappointments, the Ghana international has set his sights on making the most of the Newcastle lifeline.
