Fans of the English Premiership will have yet another season of top class football on 97.3 Citi FM as the 2014/2015 season begins.

The season’s coverage is made possible by a collaboration between Citi FM, Talksport UK and the Premier League.

Speaking at the launch on the Citi Breakfast Show, the Managing Director of Citi FM, Samuel Attah-Mensah said what Citi FM has is a contract “to be the footprint of the English Football Association in Ghana.”

He then shared details of the letter from the English Football Association that confirms the contract between TalkSports and Citi FM, which makes the station the ultimate rights owner of radio broadcasting in Ghana.

This makes it illegal for any other radio station, both English and Local language, to broadcast the English Premier League commentary.

It is only the British Broadcasting Corporation which has rights to broadcast a limited number of matches, which their partner stations could broadcast.

Citi Sports editor, Gary Al-Smith also said the team is bent on delivering exceptional quality to listeners this season.

“We have a reinforced sports desk of Godfred Akoto Boafo, Nathan Quao, Benjamin Nketia, Winfred Ayittey (of Accra Great Olympics fame), the social media fans and other experienced personalities. This is the home of the beautiful game and we’ll make this season the best yet.”

Citi FM will give fans great live commentary of matches on each match day of the English Premier League beginning on the 16th of August until the end of the season in May 2015.

Social media was thrown in a state of excitement after the first few tweets announcing the return of the games on Citi FM.

In addition to the 760 league matches, Citi FM will also provide live matches of the Capital One and the FA Cup from the initial rounds to the finals.

Fans would also get a chance to be a part of the live action through the EPL Roadshows where the sports team will move the studio to various locations around Accra and its environs. The Fantasy League has also been set up with hundreds of football fans signed up. The code for this year’s Fantasy League is 2109612-467825.

The matches will be anchored by Gary Al-Smith and he will be supported by the rest of the Citi Sports team.
