Clottey Gets WBA Belt

Joshua Clottey is a smiling man after he finally received the WBA International Light Middleweight title he so comprehensively defeated Australian Anthony Mundine to claim back on April 9 in Newcastle, Australia.

The WBA failed to present the Ghanaian with the coveted belt because they had failed to bring a new one along to the fight, ostensibly because they had not envisaged a Clottey triumph.

But as it turned out, Clottey won a one-sided bout after dropping his opponents five times en route to a unanimous decision victory.

It meant the Ghanaian had to return home without the crown he left to fight for but after a month the title finally arrived in Accra on Friday much to the excitement of the former world champion.

“WBA have finally sent me the belt I won from Anthony Mundine’s fight, it's WBA international title,” Clottey said.

“Thanks to the WBA, Star Boxing Promotions, David Berlin, my former manager and Almighty Allah not forgetting my fans too,” the former IBF Welterweight champion acknowledged.
