Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) Welterweight champion Joshua Clottey’s WBA International title is expected in the country this weekend.

Clottey returned home from Australia a few weeks ago after brushing aside Australian legend Anthony Mundine with nothing to show for by way of a title.

The hard hitting Ghanaian boxer explained on arrival that the fight promoters told him after the fight to go home and expect the title later.

“They are in constant touch with me since I left for the States till I came to Ghana. They say I should expect by the close of this week, latest by this weekend,” he said in a telephone interview.

Mundine, ranked number three in the WBA’s International Super Welterweight division, hit the canvas twice in the sixth and once in the third, eighth and tenth rounds at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre.

The three judges, all Australians, adjudged the Ghanaian the winner by margins of six, eight and nine points.

Clottey has resumed training, preparing feverishly for a possible World title shot before the close of this year.
