The Deputy PRO of Ghana Police DSP Freeman Tettey says football clubs’ lack funds to hire more policemen for matches are nourishing hooliganism.

He says this makes it easy for thugs to outnumber the inadequate security personnel at football matches.

"We don't have a problem with numbers at our end. It is rather the clubs. Sometimes they don't even tell us the truth about the numbers they expect at the stadia for specific games," DSP Tettey said.

"Sometimes we even suggest to them that we can beef up with officers of some the other security services but they don't agree.

“They have to pay for our services so they tend to ask for lower figures."

In recent times Ghana football as recorded plenitude of crowd violence in all tiers.

Just last week, fans of Northern Ladies allegedly attacked the players of Ampen Darkoa Ladies in Tamale with one player Sonia Opoku mercilessly beaten up and later hospitalized.
