Confederation of African Football best coach nominee, Emmanuel Kwasi Afranie is on admission at the Trust Hospital with a broken limb and a stitched chin following a harrowing accident he had at Peki on Wednesday.

The coach told the Asante Kotoko Express that he was on his way from Ho on Wednesday when about a mile to Peki, three of the four tyres of the car he was travelling in, suddenly botched up and sent him and his driver into a ditch. When occupants of an Electricity Company of Ghana truck that followed them rescued them soon after the accident, it was realised that he had lost the use of his arm and also had a nasty cut under his chin. Apparently he was thrown against the dashboard of the car because he wore no seat belt. The driver, who had his seat belt on, suffered no injury.

Coach Afranie was then rushed to the Peki Hospital for first aid from where he was referred to the Trust Hospital.

Doctors in charge of the Special Ward where he is being attended to described Afranie's condition as stable. When the Express team visited him in the company of Kotoko head coach, Ernst Middendorp on Sunday morning, Afranie looked hale and hearty, safe for the band-aids around his arm and face. The two friends had a friendly chat, musing over how it all happened, the King Faisal match, a proposal for a match against a Ho-based team and why on earth the GFA should cancel the all-important Champion of Champions match between Kotoko and Hearts at the last minute when the date had long been fixed for whatever arrangements needing to be done to be completed, including shifting the match venue to where space and security could not be compromised.

Before leaving for Kumasi, Ernst wished Afranie speedy recovery and expressed the wish to see him in action soon. Afranie on his part was full of appreciation for Ernst's visit and said he was overwhelmed by the gesture.

"Ernst is a personal friend but I'm overwhelmed by his visit. I thank him very much and I think it has been very helpful, being the first coach to visit me in hospital", said Afranie.

Later in the day, two other management members, Kwame Amoa-Bosompem and Kojo Nyarko visited Coach Afranie at the Trust Hospital.
