GFA Executive Council Member, Dr Randy Abbey has emphatically stated that the decision to pick C.K Akonnor as head coach of the Black Stars is in no way an indictment on the competence of Ibrahim Tanko.

Tanko who was the first assistant coach to former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah was seen by many as someone who had been around enough and thus should have been handed the job on a permanent basis following the expiration of Kwasi Appiah's contract.

However, the Ghana Football Association, decided that the relatively young C.K Akonnor fit the kind of coaching profile that will take the Black Stars forward.

Speaking on the Joy Sports Link on Saturday, January 18, Randy Abbey who was one of the key people who made the decision to appoint Akonnor says Tanko remains a valuable coaching asset to Ghana.

"Tanko is held in high esteem by the Ghana Football Association. And it is for that reason that he has been given an important job as head coach of the local Black Stars. We know his quality and we are hopeful that he will do a good job where he has been placed."

C.K Akonnor, who is expected to work with David Duncan will be responsible to qualify Ghana to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Cameroon next year.
