... as they earn trip to Can-Am Cup final in Montreal

(Oneonta, NY)..... The Rochester Rhinos have earned three A-League titles and one U.S. Open Cup title during their eight years of existence. Now they will have a chance to add Can-Am Cup hardware to their trophy case as they will take on the Montreal Impact in the finals of the inaugural cup tournament.

A match-up with the Syracuse Salty Dogs was the last obstacle Rochester would have to clear to advance to the finals later this month. Syracuse tried to play the spoiler as they were able to solve rookie goalkeeper Soren Johnson in the 33rd minute. The goal by Anthony Medina snapped a 123 minute shutout streak for Johnson against the Salty Dogs.

After halftime and trailing 1-0 the Rhinos picked up the pace and eventually tied the score in the 53rd minute of action when Jamel Mitchell raced down the sideline to send a cross to Fred Commodore who was their for an easy tap in, tying the score at one.

Scoring chances were few and far between the rest of the way as regular drew to a close with neither team having the advantage.

But in overtime, Commodore continued his hot play, scoring the game-winner in the 94th minute to propel Rochester past Syracuse and into the Can-Am Cup fianls.

Rochester will be in action again at home when they battle the New Hampshire Phantoms on Wednesday, July 16 at 7:35 p.m. The match will be Third Round U.S. Open Cup action with the winner to face the New England Revolution.
