Commonwealth Boxing Council sanctions fight for Okine

Accra, Jan 9, GNA - The Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC) has endorsed an elimination bout between Ghana's Joshua "Bukom Tsatsu" Okine and Ugandan Ali Nuumembe in a Welterweight Contest. The fight is scheduled for the United Kingdom (UK) on February 12 and the Ghanaian is expected to leave early next month to continue with his preparations. Okine was the holder of the Welterweight title till he lost it to Kevin Anderson of Scotland in September last year. The fight will therefore provide the Ghanaian the opportunity to take another shot at the title if he emerges the winner against the Ugandan.

The CBC mandated the fight following a protest lodged by the camp of the Ghanaian after he lost the title fight. The handlers of the Ghanaian claim Okine suffered from poor officiating and called for an instant rematch. Even though the CBC after its investigations ruled that the result was fair, it ordered for an elimination bout for Okine, which will grant him an automatic rematch with Anderson. Speaking to the GNA Sports, Okine vowed to make amends this time round, adding that he has trained and prepared adequately for the fight.

Okine said he was affected by the chilly whether in Scotland during the fight against Anderson but expressed the hope that the weather will be more favourable for him this time round. He added that the inclusion of coach Asare Ofori in his corner would also enhance his performance saying the coach of the National Amateur Boxing Team, the Black Bombers is an experienced coach capable of guiding him to victory.
