  • Ghana?s Awusone Yekeni won the Bronze medal in the heavyweight boxing division beating Anderson Fitzgerald Emmanuel of Barbados

  • Ghana failed to complete the men's 100x4 race, because of poor final changeover, i.e. a baton fumble. World record holder Asafa Powell's electrifying finishing burst in the men's 4x100 meters relay final helped Jamaica complete a clean sweep of Commonwealth Games sprint titles on Saturday.

  • In the women long jump event, Rosina Amedegbe failed to make the qualifying mark of 6.50m, jumping only 5.21m.

  • But in Weightlifting, Michael Johnson Abotsi is struggling to break into the medal rank in his 94 kilogram weight category event. Abotsi, who prior to the Games was the lead contender in the weightlifting team, made an unimpressive combined lift of 287 in the preliminary round.

  • Ghana national Light Flyweight boxing champion Manyo Plange took on Mohammed Nasir of Wales. The Welshman's quick legs and sharp technique was frustrating for Plange, who struggled to catch his opponent. Nasir looked like a true medal contender in his 27-12 victory.

  • Aziz Zakari won his 100m heat in 10.36.

  • In table tennis, India defeated Ghana 3-0 in the men's event

  • 17.03.06 -- BOXING: Neil Perkins eased through his first round match in the boxing tournament. Perkins produced a fine 13-7 win over Ghana?s Ahmed Saraku. Welterweight favourite Perkins(England), took time to break down the defensively minded Ghanaian but picked his shots patiently to ultimately secure an easy win.
