Confusion Rocks NSC

... Board attend crisis-meeting today
DR. HENRY PUFAA, chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Sports Council (NSC), will attempt to bring together other members of the board to engage in a crisis meeting to find a feasible solution to confusion that has endangered the council following a media publication of names of the three-man committee each to take charge of the various sports associations under it.

And ahead of the meeting, Dr. Pufaa has fired the first salvo, condemning in the strongest terms the conduct patterns of the personality who furnished the media with such names without the consent of its outfit, adding that such acts are detrimental to the development and growth of sports in the country.

Dr. Pufaa, who vehemently denied knowledge of the purported list, wondered how such a very important document could be in the public domain without the approval of the board.

He was speaking with the Chronicle in a telephone chat yesterday on selection of the committee members. "I must be frank with you, I had no knowledge of the list, and, to say the least, the conduct of the personalities involved had offered the board a lot of embarrassment," he fumed.

Yesterday's edition of the "Daily Graphic" published a tall list of 78 names of sports administrators as nominees being proposed by the NSC to constitute a three-man committee to run the 26 associations.

The Chronicle gathered that the release of the "provisional" list for which the "Graphic" published had emanated from the office of Mr. Albert Agboso, the acting chief executive of the NSC.

A greater number of the nominees told the Chronicle that they were not contacted before the said publication. The NSC last month disbanded the management bodies of the various associations under it, with a promise to put in place an interim three-man committee to hold the forts till substantive committees are reconstituted.

The publication named the former Kumasi Asante Kotoko Chief Executive, Mr. Herbert Mensah, as the head of the Rugby Association of Ghana. Mr. John Kennedy Koranteng and Mr. R.O. Lamptey as member and general secretary would assist him respectively.

Mr. Moses Foh-Amoaning heads the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) with Messrs Justus Agbeko as general secretary and Walter Deku as member. The Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) is to be run by Mr. Yaw Amponsah-Amoah and would be aided by Messrs Kwabena Yeboah and Oteng-Aboagye as member and general secretary respectively.

Mr. Eddy Duplan will continue to head the Ghana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) with Mr. R.O. Lamptey as general secretary and Mr. R. Teddy as member.

The Ghana Athletics Association has Mr. Sandy Osei Agyeman as chairman, with Messrs E.E. Wilson and S.L. Lamptey as general secretary and member respectively.

Mr. Kwesi Quartey heads the Hockey Association of Ghana, with Miss Elizabeth King and Mr. Francis Kpesenu as member and general secretary respectively.

Heading the Handball Association is the President of Sports Writers Association (SWAG), Mr. Ebo Quansah, and he is to be assisted by Messrs Saka Acquaye as general secretary and Emil Missodey as member.

Cop. Gifty Anim is the chairperson of the Volleyball Association with Mr. K. Manu-Debrah as member and Mr. Erasmus Adorkor as general secretary.

The Netball Association has Mr. C.O. Quao as its interim head to be assisted by Mrs. Elizabeth Quarmyne and Miss Priscilla Owusu-Sarpong.

Mrs. Zenabu Akoto heads the Swimming and Life Saving Association with Mr. Fred Nii Obuor Afful as member and Mr. Saka Acquaye as general secretary. Mr. Bennett Kpentey heads the Scrabble Association, which also has Mr. Chrys Placca as member and Mr. Oteng-Aboagye as general secretary.

The Women In Sports Association (WOSPAG) has Mrs. Belinda Agbodjan as its chairperson to be supported by Mrs. Jemima Mahama (member) and Miss Pricisilla Owusu-Sarpong as general secretary.

Mr. Richard Quarshie heads the Ghana Taekwan-do Association and would be assisted by Flt. Lt. (Rtd.) Tackie and Mr. Erasmus Adorkor.

The Weight-lifting Association would see Mr. Freddy Annan as chairman and to be supported by Mr. Saka Acquaye (general secretary) and Ms. Biney (member) Mr. Paul Kumah takes charge of the Badminton Association with Mr. William A. Odoi as member and Mr. Ignatious Elletey as general secretary.

The Cycling Association will be under the chairmanship of Mr. Shaa Mohammed with Mr. Francis Kpesenu as general secretary and Daniel Kenu as member.

Mr. Jude O. Adu-Amankwah heads the Karate-Do Association with Mr. Patrick Anyidaho as general secretary and Mr. Yoofi Grant as member. Mr.Ben Kwashie Johnson chairs the Judo Association with Mr. Seth Mensah Doumogah as member and Mr. Patrick Anyindoho as general secretary.

The Baseball Association has Mr. Ocran as head with Mr. R.O. Lamptey and Mr. Yaw Dankyi as general secretary and member respectively. Dr. William Ampofo heads the Cricket Association with Mr. R.O. Lamptey and Benjamin E.S. Baafi (members) The Sports for All Association has Mr. J.K. Aduakwah as chairman with Messrs Asante (general secretary) and Owusu Ansah (member) Mr. Samuel Bannerman Mensah heads the Disabled Sports Association and would be supported by Messrs S.S Asante and Seth Asare as general secretary and member respectively.
