Accra, April 7, GNA - Congress, the highest decision making body of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) said it has the sole authority to form a committee to effect the needed changes in the Association as ordered by FIFA in conformity with its (FIFA) standards, the confederations and other association.

Justice A. K. B. Ampiah, President of Congress said it was wrong for the Executive Council to have named a five-man committee to undertake the restructuring process as ordered by FIFA without its consent.

The Council is meeting in Accra on Thursday to either ratify or reconstitute the committee made up of Kwesi Nyantekyi, Jones Alhassan-Abu, Kwame Ntow-Fiako, Fred Crentsil and Randy Abbey to do the job.

FIFA had ordered an overhaul of the statutes of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) because the current structure "has done serious harm to the administration of the game".

The world football governing body sai d in a letter dated March 23 to GFA Secretary Kofi Nsiah that the GFA statutes were extremely complex with the superposition of three bodies, the Congress, the Executive Council and the Management Board.

The letter ordered the GFA to streamline and simplify its structures with a four-power system - the legislative (congress), executive (executive committee) and judicial (disciplinary and appeals committees), as was the case in FIFA, Confederations and football associations around the world.

FIFA also stated that it frowned on the appointment of government nominees to the GFA Board, which should consist solely of democratically elected members.
