Coronavirus: Ghanaman ready for use as isolation centre – GFA President

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has announced that the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence built in 2003 is ready for use as an isolation centre.

He says this is part of the Association’s support for government’s fight against Covid-19.

Mr Okraku made this known on Thursday, April 16 at the media briefing organised by the Ministry of Information to update Ghanaians on government’s efforts to stem the spread of the novel viral disease.

After an announcement by the country’s football management body to offer the facility in Prampram for use as an isolation centre, the chiefs and people called for further explanation.

A meeting was immediately held to assure the people of their safety.

The Member of Parliament, Sam Nartey George, expressed concerns about security at the facility, calling on authorities to immediately fence the camp before use for any purpose.

But the GFA President said all concerns raised by the people of Prampram have been addressed, making the facility ready for use.

He said it will be at no cost to government.

The Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence can house not less than a 1,000 people.

It is expected to admit patients from not only the Greater Accra Region but also the Volta and Eastern regions, where cases have already been recorded.

The centres serve as a camp for national teams ahead of major tournaments.
