Various match viewing centres popularly known as 'DSTV centres' remain closed despite the return of the German Bundesliga on Saturday, May 16, 2020.

The German top-flight football and all the other leagues in the country, resumed today after it was suspended two months ago due to the outbreak and the rapid spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The joy and happiness upon hearing the return of the Bundesliga on various social media platforms and the traditional media didn't materialize today on the grounds when GhanaWeb took its cameras around town to see if people will be going to the various 'DSTV centres' to watch the games like they normally do on weekends.

To our uttermost surprise, all the centres we visited today were still shut down.

Though, some of these facilities are still closed because their customers do not patronise German football, others who operate in drinking spots will continue to be closed until the ban on social gatherings is lifted.

Others who have been watching football games at the offices of the various betting companies also couldn't get the chance this time around as their TV sets have all been shut down because the companies want to follow the ‘not more than 25 people’ directive.

According to the owner of Olympic De Zola, a popular match viewing centre in Accra New Town who spoke to GhanaWeb TV, his outfit will only resume operations when the English and the Spanish league bounce back.

"My customers prefer the English Premier, Italian and Spanish leagues to the German Bundesliga and the French League. We were hoping the English League will be the first to resume but that didn’t happen.

We pray for an early return of the EPL and the La-liga "Mr. Zola said in the Twi Language.
