Astute football administrator Wilfred Kwaku Osei ‘Palmer’ has shot down talks of pay cut in the Ghana Premier League insisting that clubs must respect their contracts with players.

The Coronavirus pandemic has crumbled the global economy with the impact being felt across the various sectors.

Some top football clubs across Europe like Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have all made salary cut arrangements with their players to reduce their financial load.

In Ghana, the discussion has taken a different twist with suggestions of pay cut being shot down by several quarters.

The meagreness of the earnings of local players has been at the center of all salary slash rejection talks.

He told Joy Sports, “when you look at the fact that, the highly paid division one player is taking about 800 Ghana cedis, and looking at the current economic circumstances why are you going to do a pay cut for such a person”

“When after the Covid-19, prices of items are sky-rocketing, how would such a player be able to survive” he questioned.

Wilfred Osei Kwaku ‘Palmer’ believes such decisions should come after a proper dialogue between clubs and players.

“When it comes to contractual obligations between clubs and players, it borders on two parties”.

“And one cannot unilaterally cut down whatever initial arrangements that were made”.

“We need to continue to respect the sanctity of such contracts and honor all part of it”, he said.

All football activities in Ghana has been suspended due to the Coronavirus outbreak in the country.
