Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has expressed concern over the high levels of corruption within Ghana's football community and some sporting federations.

He acknowledged that while investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas' Number 12 Exposé temporarily addressed corruption at the Ghana Football Federation (GFA), it did not eradicate the problem.

The Member of Parliament for Odododiodio constituency claimed that corruption under the leadership of Kurt Okraku at the GFA is worse than it was during Kwesi Nyantakyi's tenure.

In an interview with Muftawu Nabila Abdulai on JoyNews, Vanderpuye stated that if he were to become a minister again, he would take decisive actions to combat corruption and clean up football.

"Anas' Exposé [Number 12] has helped [football] to some extent; just that now I think that the corruption is even more than in the Nyantakyi era. If I get the opportunity, I will do what I did in 2009 [get EOCO to ransack the GFA secretariat]," he said.

There have been criticisms from former footballers and sports personalities regarding the GFA's management of football activities, especially given the poor performances of the national teams.

The GFA has denied engaging in corrupt practices and insists that they are focused on improving their operations.
