Crusade to cleanse Great Olympics continues

The Caretaker Management Committee (CMC) of Accra Great Olympics has assured all its well-wishers that the departure of Mr Ben Brown, the former head of the Committee, does not mean the end of the crusade to cleanse the club of crass inefficiency and financial impropriety.

At a press conference in Accra, The Committee said their initial objective, which stems from the fact that the present Management headed by Mr Ade Coker's main interest of making money of the club thereby jeopardising the strength of the playing body.

"The present sorry-state of the club is due to Ade's penchant for selling the cream of the players at the end of the season and replacing them with third division players"

The Committee described recent comments by Mr Brown, during his arrest that

"activities of the Co-ordinating Body of the Supporters Union as "witch-Hunting" body as very unfortunate.

It said the body has been in place for over five years and long before Mr Brown joined only two years ago, so found the comments by him as shocking.

On the issue of "the Great Olympian" newspaper which Mr Brown declared defunct with his exit, the committee stated that the paper was not the bonafide property of him but rather belonged to the caretaker committee which he is member and was borne out of equal contributions from all its members.

It continued, that because it was Mr Brown's company "The Media Life" which acted as publisher of the paper, the committee has decided to come out with a new equally vibrant newspaper.

"Even though founders, Patrons and supporters union disapproved of Mr Brown actions which led to his arrest because he clearly used unorthodox and illegal method in trying to achieve the aims of the Co-ordinating body, it is still not happy with the circumstances surrounding the arrest, detention and conviction.

It asked why an arrest that was effected at Avenida Hotel in Adabraka was done by the Kaneshie Police and not the Adabraka Police; why was he not allowed to seek the services of a Lawyer and how come that the Press conference was held at the Kaneshie Police Station among others.
