Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakayi has insisted Black Stars are not motivated by money amid growing claims the current generation of players have lost their sense of patriotism.

Ghana endured a wrecked 2014 World Cup campaign in Brazil due to an appearance fee row, culminating in the unpopular decision by Ghana’s government to fly over $3 million dollars to the South American country.

The current crop of players have been accused of showing little signs of patriotism during international assignments but Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi has insisted the widespread suspicion are misplaced.

“Our players play not for the money contrary to the erroneous impression that some people think players play because of the bonuses they earn,” he said.

“They earn far more bonuses from their Clubs, they earn far more salaries from their Club but there is a spirit of patriotism that has been inculcated in the players.”

“Anytime they come to play the interest is to raise and serve the country. Getting bonuses is secondary.”

Despite the turmoil in Brazil the Black Stars rose out of the ashes to finish second at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
