Former Ghana goalkeeper Abubakari Damba is tipping Sammy Adjei for a place in the Ghana squad that will head to the 2012 Nations Cup even though he admits Adam Kwarasey has proven he is a goalkeeper who can be relied on.

Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic will name his twenty-three man squad for the Nations Cup next Thursday in Accra and already there are growing calls for Adjei, a former Ghana first choice to be called up for the competition on the back of his performances for Hearts of Oak.

Damba, his goalkeeper's trainer at Hearts of has joined those calls claiming his experience will be vital even in a backup role for the Black Stars in a major tournament.

"Players get called up based on their form and with the way Sammy is playing he deserves to go," Damba says. "He has experience, has big match temperament and is tested. He may have lost his way but he has his confidence back now."

Adjei has been frozen out of the Black Stars recently with Norway based Adam Larsen Kwarasey the preferred first choice ahead of Ernest Sowah at Chelsea and Liberty Professionals' Daniel Adjei.

Damba, himself a former Ghana first choice goalkeeper has no qualms with the quality of the three goalkeepers but says sending Sammy Adjei will be a more effective thing to do.

"Kwarasey has proven in the games he has played for Ghana that he can be relied upon. He has played at the highest level and has been good in the games he has played. But the other goalkeepers have a lot of time. When it comes to goalkeeping reliability is crucial and that is why Adjei must go."
