Ghanaian defender Daniel Amartey's contract with Turkish club Besiktas has been terminated by mutual agreement.

According to a statement released by the club, Amartey agreed to the termination, though the reasons behind the decision were not specified.

Now a free agent, Amartey is exploring his options to join a new club as soon as possible to maintain his form.

"The contract between our club and professional football player Daniel Amartey has been terminated by mutual agreement," the Istanbul club confirmed in a statement released on Saturday, September 14, 2024, as quoted by ghanasoccernet.com.

It is worth noting that Huseyin Yucel, a spokesperson for Besiktas, some time ago recounted the lengths to which Amartey went to avoid being transferred to a Saudi Arabian club.

Yucel told reporters in Turkey that the club had agreed on a deal with a Saudi Arabian club to transfer the Ghanaian center-back, as they were keen to offload him.

However, Amartey was not interested in moving to Saudi Arabia and took extreme measures to prevent the transfer.

He stated that Amartey, determined to stay in Europe, sneaked out of the club’s headquarters to avoid the transfer.

Amartey has denied these allegations, claiming they are untrue.

The Black Stars defender joined Besiktas in 2023 on a free transfer, making 27 appearances and scoring one goal.
