Daniel Kordie’s career in the balance as Hearts fail to fund midfielder’s knee surgery

Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak have failed to fund the knee surgery of talented midfielder Daniel Kordie whose football career is now hanging in the balance.

The 26-year-old midfield dynamo has been injured since May 2019 but the club has deliberately refused to pay attention to the situation of the former Liberty Professionals player.

Kordie was under contract with Hearts of Oak when his suffered the injury but the club blatantly refused to offer him his medical support causing him to be sidelined for several months.

Former Hearts of Oak head coach Kim Grant said: “I feel sorry for him because he’s such a good player and a great personality as well.” And admitted the situation was out of his hands and it depended on the hierarchy of the club to offer the player and new deal and treat his condition. “Daniel Kordie got a long term injury on his knee and at the moment he’s out of contract and it’s up to the board to make decisions on that, there’s going to be recommendations from me and others to make sure the welfare of the player is at it best.”

Kordie’s contract ran out 5 months after he suffered the injury. And, the situation obviously discouraged the club from funding his treatment – something which is widely regarded as an unfaithful practice by the club.

Reaction to the situation on Accra-based Asempa FM Public Relations Officer of the club Kwame Opare Addo suggested the club has spent over one year to do a medical assessment of the player’s situation. “The doctor in charge of the situation recently recommended a surgery to be conducted on the knee in South Africa.”

Hearts’ public posture towards player welfare has become a worrying trend with the Phobians. The 21-time Ghanaian champions have earned a bad reputation with their player welfare management over the period – a situation described as unattractive to big-name stars on the local front.
