Danish coach signed 2-yr contract with Kotoko?

Danish coach Tommy Moller Nielsen has claimed that he has signed a two-year contract with Asante Kotoko.

The 54-year old was in Ghana last week at the invitation of one of the club’s major financiers Dr. Kwaku Frimpong to hold further discussions towards becoming the club’s new technical director.

But the club’s management denied any knowledge of these talks.

Reports however, suggest the Danish coach who has since left Ghana signed a two-year contract with Kotoko before leaving the country.

“In the exclusive interview I had with the coach [Tommy Nielsen] he revealed to me that he has signed a two-year contract,” a sports journalist Evans Gyamera-Antwi told Nhyira FM.

This surprising development comes in the wake of several reports on social media that club Owner, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will be replacing the existing board in the coming days.

Some have questioned how this could be possible when the current management had declared ignorance of any talks or contract.

In another development, Medeama coach Tom Strand has distanced himself from rumours linking him to Hearts of Oak.

The 2014/2015 MTN FA Cup winner was reported to be ready to leave the Tarkwa-based side with Hearts ready to meet his buy-out clause.

But the Swede insists he remains happy at Medeama and wants to see out his contract.

“There’s no reason to get excited about anything,” Strand told Nhyira FM. “It’s just a rumour and I have one more year contract with Medeama.

“We have worked for one year and we have achieved this much. I think that we can develop this game more and I will be happy to develop the game one more year with Medeama.”

Strand said he is privileged to lead his team into next season’s CAF Confederation Cup following the side’s success in the MTN FA Cup.

“I am very privileged to be leading Medeama to represent Ghana in Africa,” he said.

“I want to thank Medeama for giving me the opportunity to lead this team and I hope we go on to do well.”

Strand was rewarded for his impressive exploits with Medeama by being named the Coach of the Year at the MTN FA Cup awards ceremony over the weekend.
