Dansoman Keep Fit club launch 20th anniversary

Accra, Sep. 19, GNA - The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Mr Kwadwo Baah Wiredu has called on District Assemblies to ensure that lands earmarked for sports and recreation are preserved and developed for its purpose.

He said the indiscriminate encroachment of such lands sometimes with the connivance of District Administrations was unacceptable and a stop must be put to the practice.

Mr Baah Wiredu made the call in an address read for him at the launch of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Dansoman Keep Fit Club in Accra on Saturday.

Activities lined up for the celebrations under the theme: "Healthy People, vital for Nation Building", are the annual Marathon event, commissioning of the club's tennis court, friendly games and a Dinner Dance to climax the anniversary.

Mr Baah Wiredu appealed to the District Assemblies and the Department of Parks and Gardens and other environmental organisations to assist in the preservation and development of recreational grounds. The Minister praised the Club for maintaining its momentum despite challenging moments to create healthy live styles of the people. Mr Baah Wiredu also charged the Dansoman Keep Fit Club to nurture and manage sports talents to competing at the national and international games.

Mr J.N.O. Ankrah, Chairman of the Club called on employers to encourage their workers to take active interest in sports and other recreational games.

He said the Club would continue to maintain discipline among its members and the general society so that they collectively contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.

The three-month celebrations would start from next week Saturday and end on December 19.
