Ghana FA spokesperson, Ibrahim Sannie Darra has denied knowledge of reports that Black Stars striker Kwesi Appiah made it into the final 23-man squad for the AFCON 2015 because he is a client of Dubai-based Future Gen Sports and Luxury, the same agency that manages Head Coach Avram Grant.
Most fans and pundits have criticized Appiah’s selection into Ghana’s final list for the Equatorial Guinea 2015 tournament because he played on loan at English fourth division side Cambridge United last season.
“On that speculation, I have not asked the coach or the player whether they are managed by the same agency. Let’s just focus on the player and his performance because in his first game for Ghana, he scored and I think it’s because he has trained well to excel in the Black Stars,” Sannie Darra told Accra-based radio station, Montie 100.1FM.
The England-born attacker, who is preparing to make his Africa Cup of Nations debut at the Equatorial Guinea 2015 tournament, scored in his first appearance for the Black Stars during last Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Portuguese second-tier side Olhanense in a friendly at the Algarve Stadium.
Appiah netted 6 goals in 19 appearances for Cambridge United in the English League 2 last season.
The 24-year-old Crystal Palace goal poacher has been on loan at Aldershot Town, Yeovil Town, Notts County, AFC Wimbledon and Cambridge United since 2012.
