The much-awaited full competitive debut of Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda for Orlando Pirates has been put on hold due to malfunctioning flood lights at the Free State Stadium.

The first choice Black Stars goalkeeper was named in the starting line-up for Wednesday evening’s Premier League match against Free State Stars.

It was the first time the 28-year-old has been handed a starting role in a competitive match since his arrival at the beginning of the season.

Dauda was picked ahead of regular Senzo Meyiwa who limped off Pirates’ 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns last Saturday.

The Ghana international’s full competitive debut has however been further delayed due to the malfunctioning lighting system at the Free State Stadium. Dauda will now have to wait for his chance in Saturday’s home game against Polokwane City.

The ex-AshantiGold shot-stopper warmed the bench in all competitive matches during Roger De Sa’s reign.

Interim coach Eric Tinkler however looks poised to give Dauda a fair look in by offering him starting opportunities with the Bucs.

Dauda is desperate for regular first team action to keep him sharp ahead of the 2014 World Cup where he is expected to retain his no.1 spot for the Black Stars.
