David Accam converted a spot kick for Chicago Fire in a 2-2 draw with LA Galaxy on Wednesday at Toyota Park to extend their home-unbeaten streak to 11 games in all competitions.
Accam fired a calm finish in the lower right corner for his seventh goal of the season after Luis Solignac was tripped the Argentine forward in the box.
Galaxy opened the scoring just past the half-hour mark with a hard-hit volley from Gyasi Zardes.
But Alvarez answered on the other end with a forceful shot into an open net for his fourth goal of the season.
The goal for Accam is good for his confidence ahead of joining the Black Stars for their final 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda at home.
