Accra, July 15, GNA - Mr O. B. Amoah, a Deputy Minister of Education and Sports on Friday expressed the hope the Euro- Africa Zone II Davis Cup play-off between Ghana's Golden Rackets and Georgia at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium would cement the friendship between the two countries.

He said although sports create keen rivalry among participating teams, the Davis Cup tie should bring Ghana and Georgia closer rather than divide them.

Mr Amoah was opening a three-day Davis Cup play-off competition between the two countries at the Stadium on Friday. He urged them to accept the results of the game in true sportsmanship, calling on both players and officials to promote friendship that would last forever.

The two countries drew 1-1 after Friday's singles.
Georgia number one seed Irakli Labadze, ranked 164 in the world, disposed off Ghana's number two seed Gunther Darkey 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 while top seed Adjei Darko, revived the country's hope with a 7-6 (9-7), 6-2, 6-2 victory over the visitors number two seed, Chikhladze Lado. The competition continues on Saturday with the doubles and ends on Sunday with the reverse singles.
The winner remains in the Euro-Africa Zone II while the loser slips to zone III.
