The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has called on Ghanaians to rally behind Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko as they prepare to compete in the inaugural Democracy Cup. The highly anticipated match is scheduled to take place on July 5 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Democracy Cup, an initiative by Parliament, is part of the celebrations marking 30 years of parliamentary democracy in Ghana. The event aims to bring together citizens, football fans, and members of Parliament in a grand celebration of Ghana's democratic journey.

Speaker Alban Bagbin emphasized the significance of the Democracy Cup in fostering unity and national pride.

"As we commemorate three decades of parliamentary democracy, it is fitting to celebrate through a sport that unites us all. Football has always been a great unifier in our country, and I urge all Ghanaians to come out in their numbers to support Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko," he stated.

In addition to the main match, the event will feature a special curtain-raiser match between Members of Parliament and former Black Stars players. This exciting fixture promises to be a nostalgic and entertaining encounter, highlighting the talents of Ghana's football legends and the enthusiasm of the nation's lawmakers.

The Democracy Cup aims to not only celebrate Ghana's democratic achievements but also to promote the values of teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship. The event provides a platform for showcasing the rich football heritage of Ghana and reinforcing the importance of democratic governance.

Both Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, two of Ghana's most celebrated football clubs, have expressed their excitement and commitment to delivering a thrilling match for the fans. The rivalry between these clubs is legendary, and their participation in the Democracy Cup adds an extra layer of excitement to the celebration.

Speaker Bagbin's call for support extends to all football enthusiasts, urging them to come together to celebrate this milestone in Ghana's history. "I want you all to come around not only to support but to cheer up the two teams, Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko. We follow them and we enjoy their games, and on a daily basis, I am sad that they are that low. We need to do something to bring them up," he said during the launch of the event in Parliament on June 13.

The Democracy Cup is expected to attract a large crowd, with dignitaries, sports enthusiasts, and the general public coming together to celebrate Ghana's democratic achievements and enjoy a day of thrilling football action.
