Accra, April 3, GNA - The Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Osei Bonsu Amoah has criticized the National Sports Council (NSC) for showing apathy towards the ministry's policies. Prince Ernest Oduro-Mensah, Chief Executive of the NSC was conspicuously absent from the ministry's three-day national sports strategic plan workshop that commenced in Accra on Wednesday and that apparently infuriated the often calm Deputy Minister.
Mr Amoah said that, "It appears the NSC is not interested in the program, judging from the absence of the hierarchy since yesterday. "It must be put on record that I do not want to believe that is the impression they are trying to create".
The absence of Prince Oduro-Mensah who was scheduled to deliver an address is only one of the tall lists of absenteeism from the NSC. Mr. Amoah reminded the NSC that "you answer to the Ministry and if you are not interested in our policies, then you must as well quit or look for funding elsewhere for your programs. "Whoever thinks he can do anything without the Ministry unfortunately does not know what he is about.
"It is sad that so soon it has become easier for someone to forget that he cannot even write directly to the Ministry of Finance for funding except through us".
The three-way workshop geared towards the Ministry's 'Agenda 2015' also seeks to find the best way of holistically developing sports in the country with gurus like the Deputy Minister, Magnus Rex Danquah and Dr. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah leading discussions.
