Newly-appointed deputy Sports Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide says our local football needs a massive rebranding.

Speaking to Asempa FM after the Hearts-Kotoko game, Hadzide decried the attendance at our league centers.

“Why should a game of such magnitude attract such low patronage? In the past, the stadium was full with spectators when Hearts and Kotoko played. During those days, the fans went to the stadium, as early as 9 am, and waited till around 2 pm for the gates to be opened before the game".

But it is not so currently, people do not want to come to the stadia anymore. This is why I believe the President and the Sports Minister are calling on the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Premier League Board (PLB) and GHALCA for a stakeholders meeting for a total overhaul and rebranding of the local league”, he said.

On the game Hadzide said it was good by all standards.

“It was a good game by all standards. There was one or two issues we have to deal with. But on the whole, our game can improve”, he added.

Hearts of Oak defeated Asante Kotoko by a lone goal through a penalty awarded, and was neatly converted by defender Vincent Atinga.
