Derku wins Gbidukoza cycling race

Accra, Nov. 8, GNA - As a follow-up to the exciting La Route de Ho held recently in the Volta regional capital, the chiefs and people of Peki traditional area have organized a special cycling race to sustained the interest in the sport and to mark the Gbidukoza festival.

The 30-kilometer race, which covered some principal areas in the Peki Township, was won by the pride of the region Justice Okai Derku. Derku, one of the key figures in the La route de La Ho exhibited some good cycling prowess from start to finish and it came as no surprise at all when he emerged the winner.

Asempa Samuel and Amuzu followed closely for the second and third positions respectively.

The winner took home a standing fun and a certificate while the runners up went away with a tape recorder and a pressing iron respectively.

In the ladies division, Evelyn Agbenyagah proved too hot for her fellow contestants as she won the race with cheeky ease. She was presented with a standing fun and a certificate while Dzowah Benedita who finished a distance second, had a tape recorder. Special awards were given to Vida Juliet Vivie, first competitive female cyclist in the region and a popular sports organiser and Agbenyegah, winner of the female division of La Route de Ho.

In the soccer segment, Effico Warriors pipped Great Baroons by a lone goal to lift a special trophy at stake.
