Abdul Majeed Waris has missed out on a spot in Ghana’s final African Cup of Nations squad for a third consecutive time.
In 2015, Waris was selected for the tournament but was forced to pull out of the squad after picking up an injury. He was replaced by Mahatma Otoo and the team went on to reach the finals.
The FC Porto striker was dropped by coach Avram Grant for the 2017 edition, where Ghana finished fourth after losing 0-1 to Burkina Faso.
Despite his his successful loan spell with FC Nantes last season, where he scored seven goals in all competition, the 27 year old has again been overlooked for the upcoming 2019 edition in Egypt.
Coach Kwesi Appiah controversially dropped Waris in favor of Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace, England), Caleb Ekuban (Trabzonspor, Turkey) and Kwabena Owusu (Leganes, Spain).
Waris has 31 caps under his belt, but is yet to make an appearance for Ghana at the continent’s flagship tournament.
