‘Diplomatic Corp golf competition was successful’

Captain of the celebrity Golf Club, Francis Akwasi Poku, has described the Dean of the Diplomatic invitational Golf competition held at the Club on Saturday as a huge success.

He mentioned in a post-event interview that the high turnout- members from the Diplomatic Corp as well as members from sister Clubs went into the club’s history books as one of the well organized and attended in recent months.

“I will say it was a huge success, for the very first time we recorded as many as eight foreign mission heads gracing the event.

“We recorded impressive scores and attendance in general was remarkable. We are hoping it continues subsequently.

“I am glad to announce a 22,500 sponsorship deal we have struck with Bank of Africa intended for reconstructing the back-nine T boxes on the course. We thank them so very much.”

The 18-hole event was in honour of the Zimbabwean High Commissioner to Ghana Mrs Pavelyn Tendai Musaka, who doubles as the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Ghana.

The stableford competition had ambassadors representing Switzerland HE Gerhard Brugger as well as representatives from the American, Turkish, Namibian, South African and Zimbwawbean missions in Ghana.

It was Teye Lartey Gberbie, who won the men’s Group A ultimate prize with a score of 38 points, after beating Majid Joeher by two strokes.

He received a Business Class South African Airways return ticket to Johannesburg with a trophy.

Oluwale Akinode bagged 38 points to win the Men’s Group B event while Albert Botwe beat Dan Aryee to second place on countback.

Letitia Amponsah Mensah, 37 points won the Ladies Group A category, taking home a Kenyan Airways ticket to any destination in Africa was won by Letitia Amponsah Mensah.

Mona Myers Lamptey and Vivian Dick who trailed with 30 points in that order with 30 points apiece.

Cathy Boateng, 39 points clinched the Ladies Group B prize finishing ahead of Mariatu Bawa, 38 points and Maureen Akuako 36 points.
