Disciplinary Committee dismisses stay of execution

Accra, Nov. 5, GNA - The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association at its meeting on Thursday has dismissed the stay of execution by Okwahu United in respect of their protest against its decision on the football match against Real Tamale United (RTU).

The Committee said the dismissal was arrived at after having heard the submissions of Mr Oduro Nyarko, the Board Secretary of Okwahu United and after a critical evaluation of its earlier decision.

The release said that the Committee believes that its decision on the protest was proper and therefore it cannot grant a stay of execution on the case.

It would be recalled that the Disciplinary Committee imposed a two-match home ban on the "Soccer Mountaineers" plus a fine of seven million cedis against Okwahu United after their league match against RTU at the Mpraeso Brightons Park end abruptly.

Okwahu were also declared losers of the match and had three additional points deducted from their total point build-up.

The referee was said to have called off the match citing insecurity after a missile thrown from the stands hit his head.

Mr Nyarko on Tuesday told the GNA Sports that the club has filed for a stay of execution after the Committee had placed the two-home ban on the club for crowd violence.

He said they filed for the stay of execution because they believed the club had a good case and was capable of emerging winners at the Appeals Committee.
