The Ghanaian Soccer calendar might for the first time not witness division one clubs competing for the FA Cup since the inception of the Professional league.
This is as a result of the on going legal stalemate between the Ghana Football Association and division one club; Tudu Mighty Jets. With the premier league in its second round, the FA is proposing to Congress for approval an all-premier club participation for the FA Cup.
If the highest body of the FA structure approves of it, then the sixteen clubs would commence the preliminaries from the 1/8 stage to get Ghana’s representative for the Confederation of African Football’s-CAF, continental competition; Cup Winners Cup. But if Congress should reject the FA’s proposal then the soccer governing body would be forced to use the standings of the league at the end of the season to judge who represents the nation in continental competitions.
A source hinted that, the prolonged legality over the status of Mighty Jets has affected the division one calendar greatly and it is hoped that the court’s outcome would determine whether clubs would be promoted and demoted from the division one league and that of the premier league.
According to some Executive Council members, if the FA wins the court ruling then the division one league might end in February, which would see clubs promoted to the elite division. In case the case prolongs, the division one league might be played on a one round basis to declare the champions. But when the legal brains continue to undo the other, then no promotion from the division one league while no demotion from the premier league to the lower ranks.
