Hearts Oak legend Bernard Don Bortey says the race for the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League trophy is solely between arch rivals Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak though Berekum Chelsea has taken the lead after match day five.
According to the multiple Ghana Premier League winner, Berekum Chelsea has done well by taking the lead but either of the two giants will definitely lift the trophy.
“The league we are playing is between Hearts of Oak and Kotoko; those two teams will win the league. It doesn’t matter what Ashgold or others do… The league has just started, we haven’t gotten anywhere yet. If you know football, you know that Hearts and Kotoko are capable of winning the league, it’s not those who have taken the lead,” he told Kumasi-based Fox FM.
Don Bortey added that the country needs worthy champions who can carry the flag of Ghana in the African club competitions and not clubs who will win the league but refuse to participate in the CAF inter club competitions for lack of funds.
“Those who have taken the lead should forget about it, we want those who can represent the country in Africa (CAF inter-club competitions) that can bring the name Ghana on top, not those who will say ‘I don’t have money to compete’ when the time comes. No!” he posits.
Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak are yet to find their proper rhythm for the ongoing competition but are keen to make amends against Ebusua Dwarfs and Liberty Professionals respectively.
