$80 Million Grant For Mallam-Kasoa Road

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Sheikh I. C. Quaye has told the audience at the Accra District People’s Assembly that, the Japanese has given Ghana $80 million grant to be used for the construction of the Mallam-Kasoa road.

He refuted the allegation that because Ghana adopted HIPC, Japan will no longer fund projects in the country.

On infrastructure, Sheikh Quaye said that all the roads and pavement in the 13 constituencies and pavements have been awarded on contract for work to begin soon.

The regional minister announced a six billion cedi street lights rehabilitation work, which the Electricity Company of Ghana is embarking upon along 27 ceremonial roads in Accra.

According to Hon Quaye, the problem of water supply in Accra will soon be solved since contracts have been awarded to various organisations.

On drainage, more that 50 kilometres of drains and culverts as well as a number of pipe culverts are being constructed in the Region.

Routine cleaning and desilting of existing drains will take place in flood prone areas, the minister added.

To help ease transportation difficulties faced by commuters in Accra, the minister said government has so far brought in 17 buses from Italy and hopes to bring about 200 more within the year.

The Deputy Minister of local Government, Hon. Nkrabea Effah Darteh, explaining the aim of the People’s Assembly forum said, it is for interaction between the government and the public, adding that the NPP government is based on rule of law for positive change.
