Dr Amoah calls for support for Ghana's participation in Athens

Accra, May 24, GNA - Dr Kofi Amoah, Chairman of CAN 2008 Ghana Bid Committee has called on corporate bodies and individuals to give singular attention to ensuring that Ghana sends a well-prepared and motivated contingent to the Athens Olympic Games.

He said this year's Olympics is a special one and marks a landmark of the establishment since the games is once more going back to its origin and it is for this reason that Ghana cannot afford to left out in being amongst the worlds best in sports.

Dr Amoah said this when he fulfilled his pledge and presented a cheque of 50 million cedis to the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) to support the Committee's fund-raising activities to raise sufficient funds for the forthcoming Athens Olympic Games.

The Chairman of the Bid Committee wished the contingent well in their training and hoped that they would bring glory to Ghana. Dr Amoah said he was personally donating the amount to encourage and motivate the contingent and the GOC to adequately prepare towards the global games and wished them well.

Mr B.T. Baba, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee who received the cheque thanked Dr Amoah for his donation describing it as a show of patriotism not only for his personal role in the 2008 Bid but for other sporting events.

He said the donation of 50 million cedis is the highest to have been presented by an individual for the past 24 years to support the contingents for the Games.

Mr Baba gave the assurance that the donation would be put to good use so as to give the sportsmen and women the motivation to chalk success at the Games. 24 May 04
