Isaac Aboagye Duah, a Sales Manager at CFAO, has been elected president of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF). He polled 11 out of 15 votes cast to beat Kobby Brew, who emerged with four votes at the Federation’s election held on Tuesday, August 9.

The Congress was held following the decision by former President Justice Obimpeh to step down.

Mr Duah is expected to bring to the fore a wealth of experience emanating from his tenure as Vice President of the organisation and his private experience as a Sales Manager with a leading motor company.

The sport has struggled in recent years to live up to its very high standards of the late 80s and early 90s due to challenges with funding. The newly-elected president is expected to use his vast connections with the private sector to support the federation with funding.

Ghana has also failed to maintain its achievements in the Davis Cup and Fed Cup over the years, and pressure will now be on the newly-elected executives to get the sport back to its heydey.

Speaking after the election, Mr Duah said: “The elections are over now, and it is important to focus on what we can do to change the fortunes of the sport in the country. It’s a shame that funding challenges have conspired to affect the fortunes of the sport this much, but I am confident we can turn the tide around. It is a big task, but not insurmountable. My executives and I are braced up for this challenge, and I know with the support of stakeholders, we would excel.”

Mr Duah will be assisted by Ampadu Kyei who was elected as the Vice-President. General Secretary Philippina Frimpong will also support the team.
