Richard Commey recorded an eighth round knockout over Ray Beltran in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Lightweight contest in the United States of America (USA).
In a first defence of his IBF title, it turned out to be a contest as Beltran was unable to make the weight and would not have been given the title even if he had beaten Commey.
Commey improved to 29-2 (26 KO), as he dropped Beltran twice in the opening round and again in the fifth round to show his clear dominance.
Commey caught Beltran with a left hook early in the eighth round and it was over for the American.
Though Beltran got up and was ready to continue, referee Eddie Hernandez Sr halted the fight.
Commey, would now await the winner of the July 19 fight between Teofimo Lopez and Masayoshi Nakatani, which is an IBF eliminator, or the winner of the Vasiliy Lomachenko vs Luke Campbell fight on August 31.
