Accra, Aug 19, GNA - Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs woke up from their slumber to beat Gold Stars 3-1 to give their Premiership a measure of any realistic chance in their Poly Tank National Division One Middle League match at the Ohene Djan Stadium.
The 'Abontua Abontua' lads who required a convincing win to enable them progress from Zone 2, however appeared ordinary in the first half whereas Gold Stars held their own and slightly dominated the former in a manner that cast doubts over the Cape Coasters zeal to go home with at least a point.
But against the run of play, Dwarfs' creative offensive midfielder, Douglas Mustapha tore away from his markers and sent a deep cross that was charged down by the flying hands of advancing Douglas Amoako in the penalty area.
Amoako was giving the marching off orders and to gift Dwarfs a penalty on the 39th minute mark which Mustapha converted to give the Cape Coasters the lead.
The numerical disadvantage became instantly telling on Gold Stars and Dwarfs capitalised on it to resurrect with a response but were unlucky not to have consolidated the lead before half time. From recess, Dwarfs fought relentlessly and Bismarck Asiedu finished off a perfect set up from substitute Ekow Aikins who was barely a minute old on the field after replacing Edward Adjaklo in the 56th minute.
Five minutes on, Dwarfs staged another attack that saw Gold Stars' Issah Mohammed handling the ball in the penalty area in his bid to get a clearance out of danger.
Mustapha again took the responsibility of taking the kick but only managed to kick against the post, but an alert Francis Gyepi made an instant follow up to give Dwarfs their third goal.
Four minutes after the hour mark, Lawrence Quarshie pulled one back a consolation goal for Gold Stars with a beautiful header from a cross from the middle but it was little too late to aid their cause in the League.
