IFK Amal forward Ebo Tawiah Eduam says he is ready to snub Italy and commit his international future to Ghana despite being raised in the European country and having strong ties there.
The 20-year-old striker, who plays in the Swedish third tier, was in great form on Sunday, scoring in the season's opener as his side drew 1-1 with IFK Fjaras.
After spending his childhood in Italy, Eduam insists it would be a great pride for him to feature for the Black Stars.
“I’d prefer Ghana to Italy. Players like Mario Balotelli are very talented but have hardly found their feet in the Azzuri set up. However, that is not the reason why I am opting for Ghana. I am a Ghanaian and I remember my roots,” Eduam told Goal.
“I was born in Accra and moved to Brescia at a very tender age with my mum. My father was already there and it has been great living there as I had a good platform to start my career. I started developing my love for Ghana football while watching Stephen Appiah at Brescia Calcio,” he said.
Eduam played for a couple of youth clubs in Italy before moving to Sweden last month to start a new adventure.
“I played for AC Rodengo Saiano from the youth side to first team before moving to Slovenian team NS Mura last June, where I netted 7 goals in 14 games in half a season,” he said.
Currently playing in the Swedish Norretan league, Eduam seems not to appreciate the standard. However, he believes the experience could be beneficial in the long run.
“The level of Swedish football is not relatively of high standard, although it's very physical. Not all the teams in the league play good football. However, it is a good experience for me as I keep learning new things here. I wish to excel and move to a more competitive league,” he said.
