Ghana international Edwin Gyimah was involved in a serious car crash in the early hours of boxing day 2016.
The accident happened at about 3am on Monday, Footy-Ghana.com staff writer Fentuo Tahiru reports from the accident scene.
Gyimah, 25, was behind the driver’s seat when a car he was driving got involved in a head-on collision with a commercial cab on the stretch between the AGA school and waterworks (not far from Sam Jonah school) in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
The Orlando Pirates defender was driving a Hyundai Sonata Saloon car worth around $25,000.
“He was attempting to overtake another car and got involved in the collision,” claimed an eyewitness who spoke to Footy-Ghana minutes after the accident.
Gyimah suffered cuts after the accident while a female companion, identified as one Linda Owusu, had to receive stitches for a cut around her head at the AGA Health Foundation Hospital in the Obuasi township.
Footy-Ghana understands the Black Stars player, who is expected to make Avram Grant’s about-to-be-announced provisional squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, opted to head to his hotel in a taxi instead of receiving immediate medical attention.
Meanwhile, the driver and passengers in the commercial taxi were also rushed to the AGA Health Foundation and are receiving treatment for various degrees of injuries.
