Egypt-based Ghanaian midfielder Torric Jebrin has called on the Ghana government to intervene in the current happenings in his birth town, Old Tafo in Kumasi following recent clashes between angry Zongo Youth and the Old Tafo Traditional Council.

The clashes have so far led to the death of 30-year old Hamis Bawa who was shot by a police personnel on duty at Atwima Kwanwoma Rural Bank during the clashes.

Torric, 25, who was born and bred at Old Tafo has made a passionate appeal to the ruling government and the National Security apparatus to device means of ending the violence.

“It is sad to be somewhere and hear your home is on fire. There will be no concentration from anywhere. I can’t even train.”

“I wish to passionately call on the government to do something to curb the situation as it is getting out of hand,” Torric said in an exclusive interview with GHANAsoccernet.com

Reports from the Kumasi suburb have it that angry youth from the Old Tafo Zongo who are enacting a wall to protect the Old Tafo Cemetry from encroachers saw their sweat in vain as the Old Tafo Chief and a group of young men pulled the walls down in protest.

The angry youth who challenged the chief with the claim that Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has sanctioned the construction of the wall, had the shock of their lives when the chief slapped one of them who protested.

This act of the chief invited the wrath of the youth who, according to information, retaliated.

The issue escalated into the unexpected when the youth from the traditional Council attacked the Zongo Youth on Thursday afternoon resulting in the death of the 30-year old Hamis Bawa.

Torric Jebrin therefore believes that a statement from the Presidency of the National Security can put the situation under control.

Old Tafo is now under curfew by order of the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
