Accra, April 19, GNA - Egypt on Saturday, took the Accra Polo Grounds by storm and walloped Ghana by nine goals to three and-a-half in the opening match of their three-day International Polo Championship played in Accra.
Ghana, given a-half-goal, following their weak handicap, opened the scores when Ziad Yamak netted from a 60-yard penalty two minutes inside the first chukka.
The visitors rallied up and scored two quick goals through Ali Kashet and Mohammed el-Sweedy three minutes inside the second Chukka while George Agyeman and Jamil Ibrahim also scored for Ghana. The third chukka was an all Egyptian affair as they scored six more goals and one in the fourth chukka to complete the rout. Management of Interplast Ghana Limited is sponsoring the tournament aimed at strengthening the cordial relationship between both countries. Mr Hisham Mansour, Marketing Manager of Interplast Ghana, pledged the company's commitment to offer the necessary support for the promotion and development of the sport in the country. Mr Ibrahim Said, Egyptian Ambassador to Ghana, in a speech read for him said trade relationship between both countries had existed for more than three decades and was optimistic sports would play a major role to strengthen the relationship.
Mr Kwakye Dopua-Dei, Captain of Accra Polo Club commended the two teams for the quality sportsmanship exhibited. He called on corporate bodies and institutions to help develop the sport. 19 April 09
