Accra, July 2, GNA - Ghanaians have been called upon to take active interest in sports to stay healthy at all times. Mr Ato Laing, Chairman of the Organising Committee of the El-Wak Keep Fit Club, made the call at the end of this year's Pepsi/El-Wak Keep Fit Club Republic Day Walk in Accra on Saturday.
About 25 Keep Fit Clubs from the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions took part in the 17.5 kilometre walk.
The walk started from the El-Wak Stadium, through the Military Hospital, Pig Farm, Nima, Ringway to Danquah Circle to the Togolese Embassy and ended at the El-Wak Stadium.
It was under the theme 'Walk for a better life'. Mr Laing said sports played a very important role in the socio-economic development of every nation and urged those who are not members of any Keep Fit Club, to do so now. This, he said would help them to reduce their medical bills since they would hardly fall sick.
The Beverage Investments Limited, Happy Minds Limited, Mobile Water and the Military Hospital sponsored the event.
