Elletey too unreliable to be retained -Maputo Committee

The Maputo Probe Committee has described Ignatius Elletey, General Secretary of the Ghana Badminton Association as ‘untruthful’ and ‘too unreliable’ to hold a position at the National Sports Authority (NSA).

The Committee in its report has specifically fingered Elletey; who is also the scribe for the Association of Sports for the Disabled (ASFOD), underscores the need for a ‘roots and branch’ shake up in the entire set up of the NSA.

According to the Committee, the organizational structure of the NSA was undermined which led to Elletey, with no expertise in travel matters handling travel operations for the 2011 All Africa Games at the expense of Patrick Agordzor, Protocol Officer of the Authority.

Agordzor was totally excluded from the organizational aspect of the Games despite carrying out such roles as dealing with the Embassies and Travel and Tour companies in the recent past.

“A typical case of square pegs in round holes; the Committee could only surmise that the only probable reason why the leadership of any organization would tolerate such a situation as regards personal loyalty, because the alternative explanation would be that it created the opportunity to enhance personal profiteering.

“The Committee finds Mr Elletey to be an untruthful person, and too unreliable to be retained by the National Sports Council. He lied to the Committee several times in order to protect his bosses, and anytime he was found out he stopped answering questions from the Committee.”

Elletey, the Committee noted has flatly refused to help furnish it with the cost of feeding athletes and officials at the team’s camp during the Games.

“Mr. Elletey flatly refused to undertake the assignment and has up to date not deemed it imperative to carry out the task.”

Team Ghana won 19 medals at the 3-18 September, 2011 multi-sport, which passes as the nation’s best at the quadrennial Games but the participation was blighted by several challenges throughout the competition.**
