After grabbing a brace to and an assist to inspire Philadelphia union to a 3-0 win over Columbus Crew on Sunday, David Accam threw the entire spectators at the Talen Energy Stadium into emotional moods dedicating the goals to his late dad.
The Ghana winger was on fire on Sunday after grabbing the brace for Philadelphia Union over Columbus Crew as well as providing an assist for his side’s third goal.
Accam registered a brace to guide the home side the colourful win to register their first win of the new MLS season.
The swift winger broke the virginity of the game on the half hour mark to set the tone for a wet day for the visitors.
Accam doubled the lead ten minutes later with a brilliant finish before providing an assist for Brazilian midfielder Ilsinho to seal the 3-0 win for the home side.
After the game in which Accam emerged the Man of the Match, the Ghanaian left an emotional message.
”I just scored and everything just came out. I felt emotional and I knew my dad was watching this game wherever he is.
“He didn’t get to see me play that’s why I’m really sad because I was planning to bring him here this year to watch some of our games but unfortunately it didn’t happen. So my two goals was for him,” Accam said after the game.
Accam had the option to return home for his dad’s funeral but preferred to stay and do his job.
Accam’s late dad passed on a few months ago in his home town Cape Coast in Ghana.
