England beat Ghana by six and-a-half goal to six to win this year’s Independence Polo Championship played at the Accra Polo Grounds on Saturday.

The visitors, who were given one and- a- half goal advantage due to their weak handicap, allowed the Ghanaians to dominate play and deservedly scored the opener through Eric Gene two minutes inside the First chukka.

England rallied and increased the tally through Ali Paterson a minute later to end the First Chukka.

The Second Chukka saw David Agyemang and David Duncan scoring for Ghana while George Cologen and Charles Schrager also netting for England.

Eric was on hand again to score two quick goals while Darko Agyemang added one for Ghana in the Third Chukka score for Ghana.

Both teams piled pressure in the last Chukka but it was the visitors who scored two goals through Cologen and Schrager to make victory certain for the visitors.

The Best Player award went to Ali Patterson of England.

Jon Benjamin, British High Commissioner to Ghana presented the trophy to the winners.
