Southampton midfielder, Isaac Boakye King, has chosen the Ghana national team over England.

The fifteen-year-old player who has spent most of his life in England had the option of choosing to play for the Three Lions but rather opt for the four-time AFCON champions.

Boakye who played for Chelsea's Academy disclosed in an interview with Accra-based Mothers FM, that he identifies more as a Ghanaian.

“I won’t say I prefer any national team. I will be happy to play for anyone as long as I am playing football and enjoying it.”

“I have always been close to Ghana but I am ready to play for any national team. If it’s Ghana that comes first or England, I will take it. England and Ghana have very talented players but me as a midfielder, I think I fit into any team. It will have to be Ghana at international level,” he said.

Boakye has previously had stints with the academies of Chelsea and Arsenal and currently plays for the Southampton youth team.

The young Ghanaian midfielder has been in Ghana for the past three weeks, training alongside prominent players such as Andre Ayew, Mubarak Wakaso, Kasim Adams, Benjamin Afutu, Isaac Coffie, Alhassan Wakaso, and others.
